Mary's Journey
A Breast Cancer Survivor and graduate of the University of Michigan; Waters was the first Black Woman to serve as Democratic Floor Leader when Mary served in the Michigan House of Representatives where Waters had a perfect attendance record, garnering millions of dollars for Detroit and Wayne County.
All three terms, Waters served as a State Representative were with (now) Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Waters was Whitmer’s Floor Leader.

Waters is the architect of Detroit’s $203 million dollar housing initiative that includes a $25,000 down payment for eligible home purchasers.
Ca’Mya Davis Family Resource center
Waters sponsored the creation of the Ca’Mya Davis family resource center to offer Detroiters a one stop shop for all housing issues, providing immediate shelter.
$7.6 million for Seniors and Disabled
Councilwoman Waters secured $7.6 million dollars to implement the first Senior Citizen and disabled home accessibility program.
$5 million funding to
create senior centers
Waters sponsored $5 million dollars funding for creation of senior centers that will allow our aging population a place to visit for learning and relaxation.
